For Sale by Owner (FSBO) isn’t a popular option in most areas of the country and there’s a reason for that. Who wants to make such an important financial decision and binding legal contract without help from someone who understands the intricacies of such a deal?
Still, you will find FSBO homes on the market, and some of them are true gems. But, even though the seller doesn’t want representation, it doesn’t mean that you should negotiate without an agent.
Not everyone selling their own home will work with agents for one reason. As the buyer, you don’t pay me to represent you; the seller pays my fees. And typically, if the seller isn’t working with an agent, it’s because he or she doesn’t feel the costs are justified.
There are pitfalls to buying a home without any agents involved, and you should know about them before you decide to make an offer alone. After all, the purchase of a property is a big one, and it may be the greatest financial decision you make during your lifetime. Shouldn’t you at least know what my responsibilities are and why it’s not a good idea to go it alone?
